Fischione Instruments, a high tech leader in the design, manufacture, sales, and support of advanced sample preparation equipment for electron microscopy is adding a Field Service Engineer to our European team.


This position is located in Europe - ideally in Germany, Belgium, Holland or France, and provides service for advanced scientific equipment at the customer site throughout Europe and surrounding regions, including installation, maintenance, repair, and technical support.


  •   Schedule/perform maintenance on scientific equipment at customer sites in accordance with service contract and company standards.  Ensure equipment meets performance  specifications.
  •   Evaluate, diagnose, and repair malfunctioning equipment in response to service calls.
  •   Perform service on both ultra-precision sub-assemblies and complex instrumentation.
  •   Work to extreme tolerances and both recognize and take the action necessary to achieve ultra-precise operation.
  •   Perform highly complex service and testing processes, sometimes with miniature components.
  •   Install new equipment, execute product upgrades, and provide technical support.
  •   Promote customer loyalty through proactive, professional communication.
  •   Use company-supplied laptop to access technical and customer information.
  •   Document service work, record and analyze test data, and prepare service reports.
  •   Place inventory and parts orders.
  •   Provide comprehensive technical support by phone and email.
  •   Be "on-call" outside of normal working hours to provide emergency service.


  •   Requires a degree in electronics, electromechanics, or a related discipline.
  •   Must be able to write and speak English.
  •   Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical service capacity; prior field service responsibility for complex, precision, electronic and/or electromechanical devices is preferred.
  •   Must be able to interpret complex technical drawings, electronic schematics to the component level, and wiring diagrams.
  •   Familiarity of standard vacuum practice and high-voltage technology is a plus.
  •   Needs to take initiative and work independently with a focus on results, quality, and customer service.
  •   Understanding of computer networking is beneficial.
  •   Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  •   Good organizational habits and outstanding attention to detail are essential.
  •   Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  •   Must be willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time, in Europe and nearby regions.
  •   Must be able to pass government background checks to be admitted to some customer facilities. 

Working conditions and physical requirements

  •   Candidate will spend the majority of time in laboratory surroundings.
  •   This job occasionally requires exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force (23 to 45 kilograms of force).
  •   Must be able to sit, bend, kneel, and stoop, as work may take place seated at a work station, on the floor, or on a step stool or ladder.
